FAQ

General

Where do I find the configurations?
Also install the digiface app on your smartphone. Then open Google's Android Wear app. You can see the selected watchface, with a cog wheel on it. If you tap on the cog wheel, the configuration dialog opens.
How can I choose different colors?
digiface offers six watchfaces with different color schemes. You can select your favorite watchface on the smartwatch or by Google's Android Wear app. It is not possible to change individual colors of a watchface.
In "Sleepless" mode, the display is still dimmed, and no seconds are displayed.
This is a restriction of Android. To conserve battery power, it dims the display and updates the watch face only on the minute. If the watch was not moved for 30 minutes, the display is even turned off. There is no way to circumvent this behavior.
What do I need to know when using an Android Wear 2.0 watch?
The watch face can be installed on the watch only. However, air pressure will then only be shown on smartwatches equipped with a barometer sensor, and the watch face cannot be configured. For this reason, I recommend to install the digiface app on your Android smartphone as well. The digiface app is not available on iPhone for technical reasons.
Can I beta-test a new version?
Sure! Register yourself as beta tester, and you will receive beta versions from then on. You can leave the beta test and return to the latest stable version at any time. Please note: beta versions are not thorougly tested, and may crash or contain bugs. I appreciate your feedback by e-mail. Please do not vote down the app in the play store because of an error in a beta version.
How can I get rid of the "OK Google" text?
Just speak "OK Google" when the text is displayed. After no more than five times, it will not reappear again.

Barometer

The barometer reads different values than weather maps or weather apps. Why?
The barometer shows the absolute air pressure, this is the actual pressure at your location. The higher your elevation is, the thinner gets the air and the lower is the air pressure. To make air pressure readings comparable, weather services calculate the relative air pressure, which is the air pressure at sea level. Besides the elevation, this calculation also depends on air temperature and other factors (see barometric formula).
Can I calibrate the barometer?
Android does not offer a calibration tool. But it wouldn't make much sense either. Unlike a stationary barometer, you carry your smartphone and smartwatch around with you. You would have to recalibrate it everytime you changed your location. The barometer is sufficient for simple weather forecasts, but it is not meant as a replacement for professional equipment.
How can I make the barometer appear?
Touch the lower third of the watchface, to change the display mode. If you still cannot see the barometer, make sure it is enabled in the digiface configuration.
Why doesn't the barometer show any data?
The first sample is shown on the next full hour. It takes 24 hours to complete the barometer graph. If there are still no barometric data displayed after a few hours, it appears that neither your smartphone nor your smartwatch is equipped with a barometer sensor. Please check the manuals of your devices. You can hide the barometer in the digiface configuration if there is no sensor.
Where is the air pressure measured at?
The air pressure is measured by a sensor in your smartphone or smartwatch. These are real local measurements, not just data from a weather service.
How often is the air pressure measured?
Every hour, on the hour.
What happens when both my smartphone and watch are equipped with barometer sensors?
Only your smartwatch's sensor is used.
What happens when my watch has no connection to my smartphone?
The graph on the watch does not receive updates any more. However, your smartphone still keeps on measuring the air pressure. As soon as the watch reconnects, it is updated with the collected air pressure data. If your smartwatch is equipped with a barometer sensor, the graph is still updated even without connection to your smartphone.
What is shown in the barometer graph?
The graph displays one pixel per hour on the X axis, and a pressure difference of 1 hPa per pixel on the Y axis. The pressure range is automatically selected. The rightmost, blinking pixel represents the most recently measured air pressure. The figure right to the graph shows either the current air pressure, or the most recently measured air pressure (depending on your configuration).
What causes jumps in the barometer graph?
The measured air pressure does not only depend on the weather situation, but also on the elevation of your current location. When your elevation changes by several meters in a short time (e.g. by travelling or using an elevator), the changed air pressure is shown as a "jump" in the graph. At sea level, a difference of 1 hPa (1 pixel on the Y axis) roughly corresponds to 8 meters (26 feet).
What causes gaps in the barometer graph?
A gap means that the device was unable to sample the air pressure on the hour, e.g. because it was turned off. Gaps are also caused by temporary massive changes of the air pressure (e.g. in an aircraft or on stormy weather conditions), when some of the measured values exceed the displayed range.
Is the barometer also working on airplane mode?
Yes. If your smartwatch's sensor is used, the air pressure is sampled and displayed even on airplane mode. If your smartphone's sensor is used, the air pressure is still sampled on airplane mode. However, since there is no connection to the watch on airplane mode, the air pressure is not shown on the watch until airplane mode is turned off again.
Why isn't the temperature measured as well?
A smartphone and smartwatch is usually carried close to the body or placed in a room, rendering the ambient temperature measurements rather meaningless. It won't show the outside temperature.
Does the frequent measurements of the air pressure influence the battery life time?
Technically yes, but just very little. There are only 24 samples taken per day, plus extra measurements for the current air pressure shown while looking at the watch (if enabled). On my personal tests I could not notice a relevant decline in battery life time.
Can I still conserve some battery power?
Yes! In the configuration, set the "Displayed air pressure" to "last in graph", to reduce the measurements to only once per hour. If you need to conserve even more power, turn off the barometer completely.
How can I select millibars (mbar) as pressure unit?
Select hPa, it equals to mbar.

Moon Phase

Why can I select the hemisphere?
Relative to us, people on the other hemisphere are on a headstand. To them, the moon seems to be on its head as well, with the moon phase running in the opposite direction. When selecting your own hemisphere, the watch face will show the correct direction.
